Description: a superb and stylish original framed watercolour with pen and ink of a Thames south bank scene which has long since disappeared. This may well be one of Alan Gray’s pictures from the period when he exhibited at the RA (see below).

Artist description:

A landscape artist, mainly in watercolour, a film artist and animator, Alan Gray lived in Ilford, Essex. He studied at St Martin’s School of Art from 1940-45 then again after National Service in coal mines in Yorkshire. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1949 and 1951 then worked on for the Rank Organisation in Cookham as a background artist for animated films and for Saxon Artists Ltd (Agency), Oxford Street, London. He worked as a film designer, layout and background artist, including the Beatles film ‘Yellow Submarine’ for Universal Pictures.
