Artist description:

Alison Taylor was a multidisciplinary Cheltenham-based artist with a voracious appetite for new and challenging artistic disciplines from painting, print-making, ceramics and textiles. Born in Wolverhampton, she began private art tuition at just 16 years of age, went on to enrol at the Goldsmiths College of Art in London, taking Painting in the National Diploma of Design Course during the early 1950s.

On completion of her Diploma she moved to the South West where she lived and worked for the rest of her life. She returned to Goldsmiths and its Art Textiles Department during the ‘60s, drawn by the burgeoning modern textile movement and at a time when fellow alumni included Mary Quant. She then went on to study at the Mid-Gloucestershire Technical College Weaving Department. It is perhaps her delicate, experimental textile works for which she is best remembered.
